Patriot Ledger-Pembroke fitness studio branching out to Quincy
Posted October 2011The owner of a ballet-inspired Pembroke fitness studio is opening a second location in Quincy as a way to keep up with increasing competition. Jenny Anania has run the Secret Physique Barre Studio since September 2008, when she set up shop in a small space in Hanover. At the time, she thought only a few people would show up for her classes, which combine a traditional ballet workout routine with elements of yoga and Pilates. But the response was so overwhelming that Anania, 31, moved into a larger facility in Pembroke after a year.

Posted August 2011Best Ballet Fusion Workout Secret Physique Barre Studio - Pembroke. Hit the floor with the energetic instructors at Secret Physique and experience a West Coast Barre workout, a fitness style that combines ballet steps and stretches with yoga and Pilates movements, leaving you feeling stronger and rejuvenated by the end of each class. Owner and instructor Jenny Anania, a former Patriots Cheerleader and fitness model, spent the last three years developing and delivering her customized bardio dance workout. Bardio focuses on strengthening and building muscles by practicing balance and stretching on the barre while also engaging in a series of cardio and aerobic exercises. The best part—it’s all about having fun. As a tribute to her former dance days in Los Angeles, Anania also offers a Hollywood dance class, incorporating sexy moves in a burlesque fashion.

Posted July 25, 2011Pole-dancing class is so 2007. The workout trend du jour takes its inspiration from a far classier form of dance: ballet. The blockbuster movie Black Swan helped put ballet back in the spotlight, but these West Coast-transplant training regimens definitely don't require Baryshnikov-level grace or rhythm. Endorsed by such Hollywood A-listers as Drew Barrymore, Zooey Deschanel, and Anna Paquin, the workouts integrate the fat-burning elements of interval training with the elongating principles of dance conditioning. For once, the 'burbs were ahead of the curve: former Patriots cheerleader Jenny Anania opened up her Secret Physique studio in Pembroke in 2008. Then Boston started seeing classes offered at fitness clubs, like Barre Burn at Equinox (131 Dartmouth Street, Boston, 617.578.8918 and 225 Franklin Street, Boston, 617.426.2140). The area's first dedicated studio, Pure Barre (1300 Centre Street, Newton, 617.332.7873), opened its doors in March. And last month, Back Bay welcomed The Bar Method (234 Clarendon Street, Boston, 617.236.4455). All promise a long, lean dancer's physique - no leotards required.
